Today, I went to my great grandma's funeral. Not being a particularly religious person, I zoned out during the sermon. Then the pastor said, "The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death." I had no idea that was from the bible. Mind. Blown.

Yep, also "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." (Proverbs, I believe.) J.K Rowling knows her Bible :)

Isn't this so ironic? I mean that Christianity is all against witchcraft and magic, all that other stuff we HP fans love.

*ABSOLUTELY NO OFFENSE MEANT!!! (My friend and I thought this over one day about salem witchburnings and stuff. Still, no offense meant to Christians or anyone else!)

Actually, the greek is for those that would use divination. I KNEW Hermoine hated it for a reason! Divination is not to be confused with prophesy, of course

Well it's not Christianity it's some Christians. My mom and I are Christian and LOVE Harry Potter, even the pastor of my church likes it. And actually J K Rowling does a lot of Christian references.

The whole series is an analogy to the Bible. When someone told me that, my mind was blown to. Like the whole Tom Riddle Lucifer fallen angel devil master of death three deathly hallows Holy Trinity resurrection kind of thing.

Im pretty sure christianity is only against witchcraft as a religion. like wicca and satanism. the early witches were murderers who worked for satan and magic in harry potter is a skill, not a religion. im pretty sure at least.

I've read two books linking the bible to Harry Potter. One was good, "The Gospel According to Harry Potter" by Connie Neal, and it was only working with the first 4 books. The other, "The Life, Death and Resurrection of Harry Potter" by John Killinger, had all 7 books as resources, and it seemed to be grasping at straws, contributing nothing that I haven't already considered and when it did make new points, he quoted out of context to the story.

It just depends on how conservative they are. Not all christians are anti-HP.

I'm a HP loving Catholic. :) There is a great podcast called "The Secrets of Harry Potter" that discussed biblical and mythological themes in HP that is run by a priest.

RE: lunalovegood1216 Yes, the quote is on James and Lily's graves. Singularity & andthenidied Thanks for the info! I got started reading the series while babysitting a Catholic family nearly a decade ago (I know, I got a late start on the series...oh well. Better late than never). I'm a Protestant Christian who also thoroughly loves all things HP.

I am a Lutheran HP fan, and several times I've been told that I'd go to hell for reading the books. But yet I never believe them, because my pastor's cool with HP too.

I heard that reading at Mass a couple of days after I read Deathly Hallows. I almost cried. I love Lily and James!
