I got my new class list for next year. I was complaining to my friend about how boring my classes seemed. She then took my paper for about 5 minutes. When i got it back Physics was now Charms, Chem was now potions, History was Ancient Ruins, ect. and I also now have quidditch practice from 3-4:30. Senior year is gunna rock.

Oh, and I have a completely random question, but it's been bugging me for a while. Lupin said that we don't know what a boggart's true form is, because it takes shape of whatever the person nearest fears most, right? So, in the fifth book, when Moody looks up in the desk and determines the thing rattling around is indeed a boggart, can he see its true form, and we would therefore know what its true form is? Opinions anyone?

That is exactly what I was thinking when I read that section! I think that maybe J.K.R. hadn't thought that part out, or maybe Moody just sees whatever it is he fears when he looks at the Boggart. When I picture whatever it is he sees, I picture just a silvery cloud of vapor that rattles around....

Haha I definitely wondered that myself..... it has bothered me ever since.

Its bothered me too. Just as it bothers me that Harry first sees the thestrals in OotP, when he should've been able to see them at the end of GoF (since they rode the carriages back to the train). There's a lot of minor inconsistencies, but it's ok. They're still the greatest, most totally awesome books ever!

Maybe because Harry was still in shock about Cedric's death. He then had the summer to think about it and come to accept it.

That's the explanation I've heard that JK gave.

Oooh I found a quote from her on the subject: "Well, I didn 19t want to start a new mystery, which would not be resolved for a long time, at the very end of the fourth book. I decided, therefore, that until Harry is over the first shock, and really feels what death means (ie, when he fully appreciates that Cedric is gone forever and that he can never come back, which takes time, whatever age you are) he would not be able to see the Thestrals. After two months away from school during which he has dwelled endlessly on his memories of the murder and had nightmares about it, the Thestrals have taken shape and form and he can see them quite clearly."

Yup, bothered me too. And I also wondered do you actually have to see the person die or just the dead body of someone because in GoF Harry has his eyes closed when Voldemort kills Cedric.

I always thought he just sees what he fears most. Like he's Mad Eye Moody and his greatest fear probably isn't soemthing that's usually hiding in desk

Possibly Moody knows what they look like, but hasn't bothered to tell everyone about it. He doesn't seem the type to care about everyone else's curiosity over what a boggart looks like. That said, it could also be Lupin's mistake--he's been wrong/careless withthe truth before, i.e. saying James was fifteeen during SWM when he was actually sixteen (minor, I know), saying that Snape was merely jealous of James for Quidditch skill when he was almost certainly aware of how much the Marauders bullied Snape, and he seems to imply that Dumbledore became headmaster a lot later than he did. I doubt the boggart would appear as Moody's greatest fear because the boggart in question was most likely not aware of Moody's presence, and therefore would not be able to turn into a manifestation of Moody's greatest fear. I wonder if Rowling has said anything about this?

Maybe like in the movie while the boggart is hifting form like it looks like a blur of colors, so I think thats what Moody sees, the boggart preparing for it's next victim. Also for the post wouldn't History be changed to History of Magic

I've wondered about both the Boggart and Thestral thing (especially since Harry witnessed his mother's death and still has the sound memories of it) and I agree with WhiteDeerPatronus about history. I have English as Ancient runes. It's so difficult not to say the harry potter versions when people ask "What have you got now?"
